In line with the Central Government’s initiative towards Skill India Mission, state-owned Navratna PSU NBCC organized a program on 20th Feb, 2019 at ITPO (Pragati Maidan), for awarding certificates to more than 200 construction workers who have been equipped with a new set of skills in tune with changing face of the country’s construction sector.
The Recognition to Prior Learning’ (RPL) programme under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) was organized in collaboration with Construction Skill Development Council of India (CSDCI) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The scheme aimed to benefit workers, including masons, carpenters, plumbers & electricians.
Dr Anoop Kumar Mittal, CMD, NBCC said, “Job skills, proficient capabilities, certifications, and competencies are the basic necessities required for the current workforce, therefore, re-skilling has risen as a strong tool that empowers organizations to re-purpose their workforce in tune with the changing requirement and scenario,”.
Dr Mittal described the construction sector as “one of the major pillars of India’s infrastructural growth and the second largest contributor to GDP,” as he pitched for continuous skill upgradation and certification of the manpower.
On completion of the Recognition to Prior Learning programme under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) in collaboration with CSDCI and CII, the certificates were awarded by senior officials of NBCC, CSDCI and CII.
NBCC, which is under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in partnership with CSDCI is planning to implement similar schemes in its other projects across India and train at least 20,000 youths on skill sets associated with construction sector.
